He set the silver screen on fire with his groovy dance moves ever since his debut in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and now Hrithik Roshan will soon shake a leg on the small screen. Hindi general entertainment channel Star Plus is said to be in talks with the bollywood actor to play host in the Indian version of the dance reality show ‘So you think you can dance.’

Sources say the channel is shelling out almost Rs 2 crore per episode of the show for the actor, making him the highest-paid actor to host a television show. The dance show will run across 26 episodes.

Even the King Khan of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, and the Baadshah of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan, haven’t been able to command such a high remuneration. According to industry estimates, way back in 2000 when Mr Bachchan first hosted ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ on Star Plus he earned around Rs 80 lakh per episode and now with Sony Entertainment Channel featuring KBC 4, Mr Bachchan is said to be earning nearly Rs 1.5 crore per episode. Shah Rukh Khan on the other hand fetched around Rs 1 crore per episode of ‘Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hain.’

Action-comedy hero Akshay Kumar who will soon play host for ‘Master Chef ‘ is commanding between Rs 1.2 croe and Rs 1.5 crore per episode while Salman Khan is said to getting around Rs 1.2 crore per episode of Bigg Boss, say industry sources. In comparison the female actors playing host on the small screen don’t command a premium. For instance, Priyanka Chopra is said to be getting nearly 60 lakh per episode of ‘Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi 3.’

Star Plus plans to launch the dance show in January 2011, prior to the ICC World Cup. Media buyers believe that it maybe difficult for the channel to get big moolah for the show as two big ticket cricket properties will be launched early next year – the ICC World Cup (in India) followed by the Indian Premier League.

When contacted Star India executive refused to comment on the development.
